Intra: Limited to civil service employees employed by the County of Kauai, Department of Water
Eligible lists may be used for temporary and permanent vacancies for the class of work during the life of the eligible list. Temporary appointments may lead to conversion to permanent employment.
As a major work assignment, operates and maintains medium-sized motorized equipment such as rollers 5 tons and over, loaders, backhoes, trucks with dumpster of 6 cubic yard capacity and over but less than 12 cubic yards, tank trucks of 1200 gallon capacity and over, and other medium-sized motorized equipment to excavate and grade earth and transport materials, equipment and supplies used in the construction and maintenance of highways, buildings, parks, and adjacent areas; may perform manual work tasks in construction with general construction and maintenance work, and performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements For Equipment Operator II (BC-09)

Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Note: Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours per week is equivalent to six months of experience. In addition, hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours per week is equivalent to one year, not one and one-half years.
Training and Experience: Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the operation and maintenance of motorized equipment representative of the class.
Applicants must be certified by the Equipment Operator Trainer to operate a MINI EXCAVATOR AND DUMP TRUCK WITH TRAILER
License Requirement: As applicable, possess the appropriate Commercial Driver’s License and applicable endorsements, current State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Medical Examination Certificate and any other license required by law prior to appointment.
Applicant must possess a valid CDL A and Current State of Hawaii DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.
Knowledge of: methods of operating at least two of the motorized equipment representative of the class, general construction, and maintenance practices as they related to the operation of motorized equipment; laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles on streets and highways; hazards and safety precautions applicable to the operation of motorized equipment representative of this class.
Ability to: operate at least two of the motorized equipment representative of this class skillfully and safely; recognize mechanical and operational defects and taken steps to have such defects corrected; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying typical of the class.

EXAMINATION: The examination will consist of a qualifying performance evaluation.
- Please note exams are held ONLY on Kaua’i. We do NOT conduct testing in other jurisdictions.
- When attending the qualifying performance exam, please be prompt. There will be no admittance if you are late.
- The qualifying performance test is scheduled for the week of February 17-21, 2020 on the Mini Excavator and Dump Truck with Trailer.
